Mount abu

Wrapped in the rocky Arawalis, Mount Abu is the sole hill station in the sandy state of Rajasthan. Mount Abu derives its name from a serpent Arbuda who came down to rescue lord Shiva's bull Nandi. Located at an elevation of 1220 meters, Mount Abu remains the royal summer retreat to escape the unbearable heat of the plains. From famous Jain temples to glittering Nakki Lake, Mount Abu is the proud possessor of natural as well as architectural beauty.



Places of Interest


Jain Temples
Built between the 11th and 13th century, The Jain temples of Dilwara are the architectural gems of Rajasthan. The main complex houses the five temples built with the finest marble brought all the way from Makrana. The marble temples are decorated with intricate motifs and elaborate carvings. The oldest temple Vimala Vasahi is dedicated to the first tirthankaras. The temple is named after a Gujarati ruler who funded its construction in 1031 AD.

Nakki Lake
The gleaming blue nakki lake is believed to have been formed by the gods who scratched away the earth with their fingernails. The word Nakki evolved from the Hindi word (Nakh meaning nail). The lake is encircled with picturesque hills and aromatic eucalyptus trees. The boat ride in the calm waters of Nakki is a real delight. The rock formations around the lake have been given a distinct name such as Camel rock, Toad rock, Nun Rock and Nun Rock because of their resemblance to these figures.

Sunset point and Honeymoon point (Andhra point)
Experience the breathtaking glimpses of sun sinking deep in the blue sky at sun set point and Andhra point. These spots come alive in the evening with the hustle bustle of the camel drivers, peanut sellers and holidaymakers who bunch up to watch the setting sun.

Government Museum
Established in 1962 with in the complex of Raj Bhawan, the Government museum is the treasure trove of many valuable antiques and artifacts such brass work sculptors, blue pottery, camel leatherwork and ivory carvings.

The nearest railhead is at Abu road, 29 kilometers from the city. Gujrat Mail, Aravali Express, Ahemdabad Mail and Ranak pur Express are some of the major trains, which connect Mount Abu to several key cities in India.
